Born in São Paulo in 1955, artist Nelson Screnci teaches Visual Arts and Art History.
He graduated in Arts from FAAP in 1982 and in 1983 was granted the Pirelli-Masp
Award. Since then he has been an active presence in Brazilian cultural circuit giving
lectures, conducting courses, publishing articles and having exhibitions. His work is
found in the collections of the main local and international museums, besides being
a reference for
many cultural publications. His art production amounts today to near
650 paintings.
The composition of Screnci’s paintings starts with accessing images taken out of his
personal memory, Art history or daily situations that address mass culture. Using
composition resources such as image multiplication or analogy with historic
masterpieces,
he presents a creative and poetic exercise, aiming to lead the spectator into reflecting
on the human condition in the contemporary world.
